About

We are arranging a panel discussion about environmental injustice!

We hardly see Black/African climate activists in the media, despite the fact that it actually is the Global South that has experienced the greatest consequences of climate change. The reason is not that Black people/Africans do not speak up about the issue, but it is rather about who is writing the narrative.

Environmental injustice refers to the harming of the environment because of/and simultaneously discriminating against specific groups. There is no doubt, we believe, that (neo)colonialism/racism is one of the core reasons for issues regarding the climate. Additionally, some groups are having their human rights violated for the sake of the environment. Take for example, the situation in Congo where human rights are violated in the search for minerals that we use to produce batteries for electric cars. We would like to discuss the repercussions this has in Congo and more generally about environmental injustice in the continent of Africa. Moreover, we want to discuss how discrimination plays a role in the climate crisis and bring light to the fact that human rights and climate activism are closely linked. We want to explore different aspects of the topic, such as the legal aspects. Our goal is to gain knowledge of climate activism from a different perspective than what is normally presented to us.

This event will be held exclusively in english.
